⚡ Setup Installation Guide

Follow these five steps to get Krypton Client up and running on your machine.

The process works the same on Windows, macOS, and Linux. No technical knowledge is needed. If you run into any issues, ask for help on the Discord server.

Install Fabric Loader

Head to the official Fabric website and download the Fabric Installer. Run the installer, select your Minecraft version (1.21.1 fabric), and click Install. Download Fabric API

Fabric API is a core library that provides common hooks used by Fabric mods. Download it from Modrinth or CurseForge. Make sure you pick the version that matches your Minecraft version. This file is required for Krypton Client to work.

Download Krypton Client

Move Files to Mods Folder

Place both JAR files (Fabric API and Krypton Client) into your Minecraft mods folder. If the mods folder does not exist, create it manually. The path depends on your operating system:

🍎 macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods

🐧 Linux: ~/.minecraft/mods

Launch and Play

Open the Minecraft launcher and select the Fabric profile. Launch the game as usual. Once you are in-game, press Right Shift on your keyboard to open the Krypton Client menu. From there you can enable, disable, and configure any module.

Troubleshooting: "Unable to download PXE variable file. Exit code 14" (SCCM)

Likely causes

  1. The Boot: Client requests an IP address and a boot program (typically bootmgfw.efi for UEFI or pxeboot.com for BIOS).
  2. The Handshake: The client executes the boot image. It now knows it wants to talk to an SCCM server, but it doesn't know which task sequence to run.
  3. The Variable File: The client asks the Management Point (MP) for a set of instructions. These instructions are stored in a small, temporary file called variables.dat. This file contains the unique ID of the advertised task sequence, machine variables, and deployment-specific settings.
  4. The Download: The client attempts to download variables.dat via HTTP/HTTPS (not TFTP) from the distribution point (DP).
  5. The Decision: If successful, the client reads the file and begins the correct task sequence.
