The TP-Link Archer C5 V4 is a fourth-generation router from TP-Link's Archer series, offering a maximum data transfer rate of 1.9 Gbps (1.3 Gbps on the 5 GHz band and 600 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band). The router features four external antennas, four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and supports MU-MIMO technology for efficient multi-device connections.
- Security vulnerabilities: Protects against exploits like KRACK, DNS hijacking, and remote code execution.
- Wi-Fi stability: Fixes random disconnects, latency spikes (bufferbloat), and 5 GHz band dropouts.
- ISP compatibility: Ensures the router works correctly with new fiber or cable modem standards (e.g., VLAN tagging, IPTV).
- Feature additions: Later builds add WPA3 support (partial), improved QoS, and simplified Tether app integration.

Installation Steps:
- Hard Reset (Recommended): Press and hold the Reset button on the back of the Archer C5 v4 for 10 seconds. This clears conflicting settings.
- Connect via Ethernet: Plug your PC into LAN port 1 of the router. Disable Wi-Fi on your PC to avoid auto-switching.
- Access Web Interface: Open browser and go to
192.168.0.1 or tplinkwifi.net. Log in (default: admin/admin).
- Navigate to Firmware Upgrade: Go to Advanced → System Tools → Firmware Upgrade.
- Choose File: Click "Browse" and select the
.bin file you downloaded.
- Crucial Step – Uncheck "Keep Settings": If available, UNCHECK this box. Keeping old settings can reintroduce bugs. You will reconfigure manually afterward.
- Start Upgrade: Click "Upgrade". The router will take 2-3 minutes. Do not power off, refresh, or disconnect. The LEDs will flash erratically – this is normal.
- Wait for Reboot: The router will reboot automatically. Wait 5 full minutes after the lights stabilize.
- Second Hard Reset: After reboot, perform another 10-second hard reset. This ensures the new firmware's NVRAM is cleanly initialized.
- Reconfigure: Set up your SSID, password, and admin credentials from scratch.
AC1200 Dual-Band Wi-Fi: Delivers up to 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band.
