The Great Indian Murder - 2022 - Hindi Season 1: A Gripping Whodunit

What Doesn’t Work: The Flaws

  • Pacing Issues: The first 3 episodes are tight. Episodes 4-6 slow down considerably. While the character backstories are rich, some viewers might find the middle episodes dragging.
  • The “Book is Better” Syndrome: Fans of Vikas Swarup’s novel Six Suspects were disappointed by changes made to the ending and the reduction of certain subplots (especially the American tourist angle, which is completely removed in the series).
  • Audio Mixing: A minor but common complaint: The Hindi dialogue sometimes gets buried under the background score. You might need subtitles even for Hindi.
  • Cliffhanger Fatigue: The show tries to keep suspense by cutting away from crucial moments, which works sometimes but feels manipulative in others.

Beyond being a simple "whodunnit," the show explores several complex themes:

  • Violence, political/religious tension, strong language, references to rape/abuse and caste-based discrimination. Viewer discretion advised.
