The Visual Interface

Video Panel: Supports AVI, MPEG, and (with codecs) MKV/MP4 via DirectShow.
Waveform Panel: Displays the audio peaks. You can literally see where the silence ends and dialogue begins. You drag the subtitle start point to the peak of the "S" sound.
Grid Panel: Lists every subtitle (Index, Start time, End time, Duration, Text).

Tip: Double-clicking an error in the list jumps directly to that subtitle line.
