Space Efficiency: Unlike a standard ISO file, which is a fixed 4.3 GB because it includes "junk data" to fill a physical DVD, a WBFS file strips away unnecessary padding. Note: Modern USB loaders (USB Loader GX, WiiFlow) no longer require a dedicated WBFS partition. Instead, they read .wbfs files stored on FAT32 or NTFS drives. For fans of the pink puffball, Kirby’s Return

  • For Dolphin (PC): You can use RVZ (Dolphin’s native compressed format) which is 30% smaller than WBFS. However, RVZ doesn’t work on real Wii hardware.
  • For Real Wii: WBFS is still king. The Wii’s 88MB of RAM cannot decompress high-level formats like RVZ or CISO in real time. WBFS hits the sweet spot of compression without requiring decompression overhead.
  • For Wii U (vWii): WBFS works perfectly, but you must install the game as a WUP package to boot from the Wii U menu. Use Wii2WUP to convert your WBFS to an installable format.
