The Devil - Index Of I Saw
The Dark and Disturbing World of "I Saw the Devil"
The film was initially given a "Limited" rating in South Korea (effectively banning it) because the Korea Media Rating Board index of i saw the devil
- Unorganized folder names like
I.Saw.The.Devil.2010.1080p.mkv
- Mixed quality: CAM rips, watermarked Korean web-dls, or fake
.exe files.
- Missing subtitles (critical for non-Korean speakers).
- Dead links or password-protected archives.
- No courtroom, no police (after the first act): Soo-hyeon never once calls the authorities. The entire index of civil justice is erased. The film argues that in the face of absolute evil, the state is irrelevant.
- No sexual violence on screen: Joo-yeon’s murder is shown only in fragmented, blurred images (her dismembered body parts in a freezer). Kyung-chul’s assault on the bus driver is implied, not shown. The film indexes its violence carefully: we see the broken bones, but not the rape. This choice prevents exploitation while ensuring the psychological horror remains.
- No happy ending: The final frame offers no catharsis, no music swell, no embrace. Soo-hyeon walks away, still alone. The index of traditional thriller closure is deliberately missing.
