How To Remove Recent Files — In Kmplayer

A Clean Slate: How to Remove Recent Files in KMPlayer

KMPlayer is a versatile and powerful media player, known for its ability to handle a vast range of codecs and customization options. However, one feature that can become a privacy concern or simply a source of visual clutter is the "Recent Files" list. This list, found in the main menu or on the start page, shows a history of every video and audio file you've recently opened.

  • Look for files named Recent.ini, history.txt, or similar (may be in a subfolder like “Config” or “PlayerData”).
  • Delete those files or open them in Notepad and remove the entries you don’t want saved.
  • Restart KMPlayer — the recent list should be cleared.
    • "Save recent file history"
    • "Keep history of opened files"
    • "Add files to recent file list"

If the recent files are persisting due to a configuration bug, a full settings reset can clear all stored history and internal caches. Open KMPlayer and press Preferences Reset Current Preset button (usually located at the bottom left of the window).
