Recite Surah Al-Fatiha (once or more – often 1, 3, 7, or 11 times). Fatiha is not a bid'ah (innovation) when done

Surah Al-Baqarah (Starting verses): Alif-Lam-Mim se lekar Muflihun tak.

Bilal repeated: "Allahu Akbar." (Allah is the Greatest).

Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112): Recite 3 times. (Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said reciting this thrice is equal to one full Quran in reward). Surah Al-Falaq (Chapter 113): Recite 1 time. Surah An-Nas (Chapter 114): Recite 1 time. Surah Al-Fatiha (Chapter 1): Recite 1 time.

Important Notes:

  • Fatiha is not a bid'ah (innovation) when done with correct intention of sending reward to the deceased, as many scholars allow it based on general proofs of Qur'an and Hadith (e.g., "And those who come after them say: Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith" – Surah Hashr: 10).
  • No specific number of Fatiha is required – 1, 3, 7, 11 times are all fine.
  • Food distribution after Fatiha is a cultural practice, not religious requirement. If done, ensure it is charity (sadaqah) with intention of reward for the deceased.
  • Avoid innovations: Do not clap, dance, play music, or associate any partner with Allah during Fatiha.
