Factorysoft Opc Client Install
Technical Implementation Guide: FactorySoft OPC Client FactorySoft provides specialized developer toolkits designed to build custom OPC (Open Platform Communications) client applications. These toolkits streamline the complex COM/DCOM and OPC specifications, allowing developers to integrate industrial data into Windows-based environments. 1. Pre-Installation Requirements
- Prerequisites – Make sure .NET Framework 4.7.2+ is already present. The installer didn’t flag it until runtime.
- Firewall – FactorySoft requires inbound rules for TCP port 135 (RPC) and dynamic ports if using DCOM. I initially saw “access denied” errors until I added these.
- User permissions – The client service runs under LocalSystem by default. If your OPC server requires a specific Windows account, change this during install or via Services after.
- Configuration tip – After install, open the “OPC Client Explorer” and test the connection with a known working server before integrating into your main application.
- Reformatting a crashed Windows XP machine.
- Virtualizing a legacy workstation.
- Trying to get a 15-year-old Excel reporting macro to work on a newer OS.
