Offline Update ((new)) — Eset Smart Security

ESET Smart Security (now largely succeeded by ESET Internet Security ESET Smart Security Premium ) in an offline environment, you must use a Mirror Tool or a local Update Mirror

Phase 2: Apply the Update on the Offline Machine (Machine B)

  1. Insert the USB drive into Machine B.
  2. Do not simply double-click the ZIP file. ESET needs to import it via its internal update mechanism.
  3. Open ESET Smart Security.
  4. Press F5 on your keyboard to open the Advanced Setup window. (Alternatively, click Setup → Enter Advanced Setup).
  5. In the Advanced Setup tree, navigate to:
    Update → Profiles → Update
  6. Look for the setting labeled "Update server" or "Connection options".
  7. Change the dropdown from "Automatically choose" or "ESET's update servers" to "Offline update folder".
  8. Click the Browse button and navigate to the location of the downloaded .zip file (e.g., D:\ess_offline_update.zip). Do not extract it—ESET can read the archive directly.
  9. Click OK to save the setting.
  10. Go back to the main ESET dashboard. Click Update in the left-hand menu.
  11. Click the "Update virus signature database" button.
  12. ESET will now read the offline file and integrate the signatures. You should see a progress bar and the message: "Virus signature database has been updated successfully."

Frequency: To stay protected, it is recommended to download and apply these updates at least once every 24 hours. ESET Smart Security (now largely succeeded by ESET

Important: Offline updates are cumulative. The latest file contains all signatures released up to that date, so you don’t need to install previous versions. Insert the USB drive into Machine B
