Alone in the Dark (2008) —often referred to as Alone in the Dark 5
When Alone in the Dark 5 (officially titled Alone in the Dark - Inferno on consoles) hit PC shelves in June 2008, it was a disaster—not because the game was terrible (it had brilliant ideas like the inventory jacket and fire propagation), but because of its DRM (Digital Rights Management) .
This is the ironic tragedy of Alone in the Dark 5. Even if you bought the game on DVD or from a store like Direct2Drive, you were better off downloading a cracked, patched executable.

Alone in the Dark (2008) , the series' fifth installment, is frequently cited as a textbook example of "ambition exceeding execution". Pro Tip: If the 2008 version is too buggy for your taste, consider checking out the 2024 Alone in the Dark reimagining, which offers a much smoother (though different) survival horror experience on modern hardware.
